The proposal would have seen North Midlands merge with Roscommon Credit Union.
North Midlands Credit Union has turned down a plan to create a merger with Roscommon.
The proposal failed to reach the required 75% level of support from its members in its Mullingar base, who attended a special meeting on the matter.
If it had passed, the merger would have served over 85,000 members and over €600 million in assets.
