Midlands Expat Says Ireland Should Adopt Finland's State-Run Childcare Model

He says they pay more tax but it's worth it.

A state-run childcare service could easily drive down costs, according to an Irish expat.

Dan Nickstrom from Westmeath is now living in Finland, where childcare is publicly-funded and run by local authorities.

He says the cost is based off your income, with free care provided if a couple's monthly salary is below €3,800 or if you're a single parent or attending college.

The absolute maximum you can pay for one child is €288 a month.

The Ballinagore man says they do pay slightly higher tax compared to Ireland, but it's worth it:
