A midlands festival will be the target of a HSE drug harm reduction push.

Trained volunteers will operate a tent at Life in Westmeath this weekend, and at other festivals throughout the summer, educating attendees on the harmful impact of drug use.

A message of safety will be spread using vibrant posters, friendly messages and merchandise.

HSE volunteer trainer Nicki Killeen says it's important they don't force the message on young people:

The health service is particularly worried about new synthetic stimulants which are being sold as ecstasy to unsuspecting punters.

Addiction lead, Professor Eamon Keenan, says the strongest ecstasy pill ever recorded was found in Manchester last year;
