A midlands fire officer is refuting claims that hand sanitizer can catch fire in your car. 

Warnings on social media in recent days increased fears that a volume of the product left exposed could cause a blaze in vehicles.

Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer in Westmeath Pat Hunt says while the alcohol is flammable, it would have to be exposed to a naked flame for this to happen. 

However, he does issue a warning about sanitizer in another setting:
