A midlands hauliers rep is warning Irish supply chains are in danger if the government doesn't provide support to the industry.

A cap on the number lorry drivers from outside Europe allowed to work in Ireland is being scrapped, in an attempt to meet a driver shortage.

However, Laois' Ger Hyland - from the Irish Road Haulage Association - says the biggest challenge facing the sector is the rising carbon tax.

He says they can't afford the rising costs, with no viable alternative to diesel available:
