It comes as a school in Westmeath was forced to pay 85 thousand euro compensation to a teacher after finding that she was discriminated against on the grounds of family status.
Emily Williams applied for a fixed term contract job at St Tola's National School while she was on maternity leave last year.
At the end of the interview the school's principal said to her she "really should enjoy every moment at home with the baby".
