Lough Owel and Lene have gotten a 'favourable' review from the EPA's new bathing water quality report.
The number of water warnings issued prior to heavy rain nearly doubled last year, according to the EPA.
Its new report on the quality of bathing water found the rise in the number of downpours is increasing the risk of contamination from waste, urban and agricultural sources.
Despite this, water tested at in the Midlands is being given a favourable review by the agency.
Bathing water at Lough Lene and Lough Owel are being given an 'excellent' rating for 2025, while Lough Ennell is being rated as 'good'.
