Ciaran Mullooly will be bringing a team of MEPs to Ireland next year.
Midlands MEP Ciaran Mullooly is going to be the EU's Rapporteur for the Just Transition Fund.
The Independent Ireland rep will be tasked with producing a report on "The role of cohesion policy in supporting the just transition."
He says he's planning a visit of over ten MEPs to the Midlands, on a 'fact-finding mission' next February, where he'll be looking to target counties that could benefit from new employment schemes under the fund.
The former broadcaster will lead the delegation and use the findings to write his assessment for the EU to consider in policy discussions.
He says says one of the areas of focus is talking to both current and former local businesses owners:
