Midlands Minister Proposes Peat Harvesting Be Exempt From Planning Process

MD of Erin Horticulture, James Spillane says it is vital for the sector.

Proposed changes to the planning process could save the peat harvesting industry from complete disintegration. 

That's according to Managing Director of Erin Horticulture, James Spillane who says delays caused by the current system are putting 17,000 jobs at risk. 

It comes as Minister of State, Longford Westmeath TD Peter Burke suggested peat harvesting should be exempt from needing planning permission. 

The Offaly man says if this doesnt happen, there will be no way forward for the sector:
