The Oireachtas Committee on Autism is holding its first public meeting today.
Improvements need to be made to HSE therapies provided for autistic children and adults.
That's according to the founder of Autism Parents Athlone, Claire Early, who says initial assessments for children who may have autism are inaccessible due to long waiting lists.
Ms. Early, whose daughter Sophie is autistic, hopes the new Oireachtas Committee on Autism will make changes to the current framework.
She says parents are being forced to pay for private assessments:
