10 complaints of a serious nature were filed, according to an annual prisons report.
The conditions faced by some prisoners are "deplorable".
That's according to the Irish Penal Reform Trust, following a damning report from the Office of the Inspector of Prisons.
The 2024 annual report found there was 10 'Category A' complaints made by inmates at the Midlands Prison, the second highest in the country.
There were 4 from Portlaoise.
Category A complaints are allegations of a serious nature, including assault or use of excessive force against a prisoner or ill treatment, racial abuse, discrimination, intimidation, and threats.
