Midlands Projects Confirmed For Inclusion In National Development Plan

The upgrade includes long awaited road upgrades across Offaly and Westmeath.

A number of major Midlands projects are now included in the National Development Plan.

The €23.4 billion NDP spending review contains plans for the progression of the the long-awaited N4 Mullingar-Longford upgrade, and the N52 Tullamore-Kilbeggan Link Road.

The N4 upgrade is expected to cost between €500 million and €1 billion and will now move through the statutory and appraisal stages, with construction commencing by 2030.

While the N52 project has been moved into the advanced for future construction category.

Offaly TD Tony McCormack says the next phases will be design and purchasing land: 

There's also funding set aside for a relief route in Westmeath that runs from the east side of Athlone from the M6 to the N55 road, and aims to provide relief to congested roads in the town centre.

Longford-Westmeath TD  Kevin 'Boxer' Moran says the estimated cost of the project varies between 48 and 50 million euro.
