A young midlands farmer, who was knocked unconscious by fumes while working, is emphasising the importance of safety this Farm Safety Week.

Ella Casey fainted after being exposed to agitated slurry fumes two years ago.

She managed to call for help before passing out and was rescued quickly.

Ella made a fast recovery and was back to work the next day.

Ella and her father Luke have been speaking with David Hollywood on Midlands Today and recalled what happened that day:

Farmers nearly wear near-misses as a badge of honour.

That's according to Junior Agriculture Minister and Kildare-South TD Martin Heydon, who says the number of close-calls needs to be reduced.

He is urging farmers to check tractors and other equipment on their land to ensure safety standards are met.
