Midlands Woman To Be Honoured With Stamp For International Women's Day

She was the first woman to hold a position as a permanent secretary of a government department.

A midlands woman is to be honored with her own stamp for International Women's Day.

An Post have announced the list of 'Women in Public Life' who will be given stamps to celebrate the day this year.

Included is Thekla Beere from Streete, Rathowen, the first woman to hold a position as a permanent secretary of a government department.

Mullingar Historian Ruth Illingworth says she also could've been Ireland's first female President:
