More Accommodation Needed In Offaly For Tourism Development

The new 4-year tourism strategy for the county was launched last week.

Increasing the number of accommodation beds in Offaly is "critical" for developing tourism.

That's one of the findings of the county's new Tourism Strategy 2023 - 2027, which was launched last week.

It found Offaly has less than half the beds Westmeath has, while it also lags significantly behind Laois and Carlow.

The Strategy is looking towards "non-mainstream" forms of accommodation, such as glamping, and camping and RV parks.

It also wants to see further development along the Grand Canal and River Shannon, making use of both barges and cruisers.
