Portlaoise have recently adopted the Sectoral Policing Scheme.
A new initiative in Laois will see more Gardai back on the beat.
Under the Sectoral Policing scheme, Portlaoise has been divided into eight zones, with a community garda appointed to cover each area.
Superintendent in Portlaoise, Eamon Curley says it will give the local community a chance to engage and build a relationship with their dedicated garda.
