More Prisoners Than Beds In Midlands Prison

Prisons are becoming impossible to control and prison officers are in danger - Meath West TD.

There were over 100 more prisoners in custody than there were beds available at the Midlands Prison yesterday.

The 875-bed institution was at 112% capacity yesterday, with 978 inmates in custody, according to figures from the Irish Prison Service.

Portlaoise Prison was also overcrowded, registering a capacity of 102%.
