Mullingar Hospital Extremely Busy This Morning

It's the third time this week it has asked the public not to attend the emergency department.

Mullingar Hospital and Emergency Department is extremely busy.

Visitors are advised to only attend the hospital emergency department if absolutely necessary and to not bring children, if at all possible.

Hospital management is apologising for the inconvenience to patients and their families.

It is asking people to telephone their GP or pharmacist in the first instance to seek the best advice, rather than presenting at the hospital.

27 patients are on trolleys in the Westmeath facility, meanwhile there are nine patients waiting for a bed in Tullamore and two in Portlaoise.
