It brings an end to a planning process which lasted around 18 months.
A €7.5m redevelopment of a derelict site in Tullamore has received the green light.
Offaly County Council have approved planning permission for the construction of a a one-storey supermarket and off-license, along with with a three-storey space including a café and further retail and office space.
The planning process has been ongoing for around 18 months - with developers Weavermay estimating that building the complex with take a year from when shovels hit the ground.
It's believed that up to 55 jobs will be created by the project.
Responding to the news, local Fianna Fail TD Barry Cowen said:
This development now offers a great opportunity to kick start the regeneration of a town centre site that has remained derelict for the last 15 years.
The project as well other recently announced investments in adjoining properties will be a much-needed boost for all businesses in the town.
