New Bill Would Give ESB More Control Over Water Levels In River Shannon

A Roscommon senator is behind the proposals.

The ESB would have more freedom to control water levels along the River Shannon, under a bill to be launched today.

Fianna Fáil's Roscommon senator Eugene Murphy is proposing the legislation, to address flooding issues.

He wants the ESB to have less restrictions to carry out works on the Shannon Lakes, including dredging.

Senator Murphy says an old law needs to be amended urgently.
