They'll be paired up with a local rep for an internship programme.
Migrants and county councillors in the midlands are being asked to a participate in a new political internship programme.
The project - run by the Immigrant Council of Ireland - aims to help migrants learn more about Irish politics by pairing them up with a local rep.
It's currently limited to people from outside the EU, and will see them shadow a councillor for one day a week over a three month period.
Integration Officer, Teresa Buczkowska says they hope it will lead to more diversity in politics:
Migrants living in Westmeath, Laois or Offaly who are interested in getting involved in the scheme must complete an online application form.
Transport and lunch expenses, as well as childcare costs for single parents will be provided for successful applicants.
Migrants must be non-European Economic Area (EEA) citizens.
Councillors from Westmeath, Laois or Offaly who would like to host an intern of a migrant background should send an email indicating their interest to research_intern@
Online information sessions for potential migrant applicants and interested councillors will talk place next week.
The details and requirements for the scheme will be outlined during each event.
