Reports this morning indicated there could be as many as 600 IPAs moved to the county.
The Enterprise Minister says there are no plans in place to move asylum seekers from Dublin to Westmeath.
A secret memo, according to the Irish Independent, revealed there was proposals to move 200 IPAs to Columb Barracks in Mullingar, and 400 to Athlone.
However, Enterprise Minister and Longford Westmeath TD Peter Burke says there was no such strategy discussed by Government, and no new arrivals are due at either site in the county.
He says the document referred to State-owned sites already in use, previously used, or in the case of Thornton Hall, being prepared for use.
He is also giving an assurance no new decisions were taken on foot of the update provided.
