People are being reminded not to avoid the ED though if in urgent need of care.
There's no sign of the prolonged pressure on Mullingar Regional Hospital abating.
That's according to the hospital's clinical director, who says they're struggling to keep up with the number of adults and children presenting with a non covid-related respiratory virus.
Dr. Murat Kirca says while they haven't reduced any services, the waiting time for treatment is becoming much longer.
He says more staff are also out of work due to the rising community transmission of covid-19:
