The Government are advising restrictions on reporting for the new Local Community Safety Partnerships.
The National Union of Journalists says moves to limit media access to councils' new policing committees will only serve to undermine public confidence.
The restrictions are being advised by the Government for the new, Local Community Safety Partnerships - which will bring together a broader range of stake-holders than before, including local residents, HSE and Gardaí.
The new partnerships are aimed at providing a more inclusive approach to community safety issues.
However the NUJ's Assistant General Secretary, Ferbane's Seamus Dooley, says plans to limit media access just don't make sense:
