New figures from Wind Energy Ireland have revealed significant financial income for Offaly County Council from wind farm rates.
The €7.9 million taken in by the local authority in the year to March represents just under 31% of its commercial rates overall.
It has the largest percentage of its commercial rates coming from wind farms in the country, and represents just under 7% of all of Ireland's installed wind farm infrastructure in Ireland.
Laois takes in just under €445,000, representing 2.7% of its rates income, while Westmeath recorded no wind farm rates income at all.
