Offaly Councillor Highlighting Barriers To Women In Local Politics

She says the challenges continue, even after getting elected.

An Offaly councillor is highlighting the continued barriers to women in local politics. 

Birr's Clare Claffey is the sole female voice in the county chamber since the Green Party's Pippa Hackett took up a role in the Seanad.  

The Social Democrats rep says a number of invisible issues exist for those running for local authority and remain in place even if they are elected. 

She says there is a number of simple ideas that would help make politics more accessible for women:
