A Fianna Fáil rep admits they are looking for special treatment in Offaly.
Councillors in Offaly are writing to the government to ensure all road improvement projects in the county go ahead this year.
Some works scheduled for the months ahead are in danger of postponement due to rising inflation.
The issue was discussed at the latest meeting of Offaly County Council.
But local reps feel Offaly is "an exceptional case" given the particularly poor quality of road surfaces and the Department of Transport should respond accordingly.
Fianna Fáil's Eddie Fitzpatrick admits they are looking for special treatment:
It's yet to be confirmed if any projects will be postponed. The roads programme is managed at the more localised Municipal District level, and will be discussed further at the respective meetings of each MD next month.
Responding to queries raised by councillors, council staff assured the elected reps that the local authority has already liaised with the Department of Transport on the funding difficulties. They also stated that, if any large national road projects don't go ahead this year, funding streams from central government could be redistributed.
Councillors have also agreed to write to the local Oireachtas members to help make their case to the government.
