The local authority has laid out the Draft Traveller Accommodation Programme for 2025-2029.
The Traveller Community in Offaly is 'particularly badly impacted' by a lack of affordable rental accommodation.
That's the view of Offaly County Council, which has laid out its Draft Traveller Accommodation Programme for 2025-2029.
The local authority admits the provision of Traveller Group Housing is a 'challenge,' with a continuous decrease in the number of families in private rented accommodation in the past five years.
That number has fallen from 44 to 20 in that period.
The Council is aiming to provide 80 units of accommodation as part of the plan, with the largest share of those to be brought on stream in the Tullamore Municipal District.
Halting sites in Birr and Tullamore are also set to be refurbished during the lifetime of the progamme.
Offaly County Council says achieving the objectives outlined in the plan will be a 'real challenge,' and will rely on a partnership with the Traveller community and widespread consultation with all interested parties.
It's asking people to make submissions on the proposals by email or post by September 17th.
