Councillors in Offaly are looking to control the amount of candidates they're considering ahead of this year's forthcoming Presidential election.
The local authority has already been contacted by five individuals, who don't have a national public profile, looking to address County Council members with a presentation.
Discussions among the public reps indicate support will follow party lines.
Mairead McGuinness has been confirmed as the Fine Gael nominee, with Catherine Connolly receiving the nomination from the Social Democrats, meanwhile Fianna Fail is still to select a candidate.
Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council and Independent Cllr John Leahy says the council will revisit the issue after the summer:
