An Offaly footballer is staying sober this year in an effort to raise funds and awareness of mental health.
Stephen Hannon, a senior footballer with Rhode GAA for the last ten years, has battled his own demons, having attempted suicide last April - and believes alcohol and mental health go hand in hand.
Through his fundraiser, Steve's Sobriety Year, he's hoping to raise 8,000 euro for Pieta House.
Speaking on the Midlands Today Show with Will Faulkner, he said he believes that opening up and having face-to-face conversations about your mental health is very important:
