Good news this morning for one local village today.
A secondary school in Offaly is set for expansion.
Approval has been granted to Killina Presentation Secondary School, Rahan for an extension containing two new classrooms, special educational needs facilities and a science lab.
Welcoming the news, Laois-Offaly Fine Gael TD Charlie Flanagan said;
"Rural schools are the life blood of the community and I am delighted that funding has been awarded to meet the needs of the students. There has been an increase in population in County Offaly and it is important that our schools are adequately equipped to deal with the educational needs of our students, I hope the project can proceed without delay. This announcement is a good news story. However, I am acutely aware that a number of schools in the county are in need of repair and upgrade and I will continue to address these matters with the Minister for Education to ensure that these are progressed."
It's not yet clear when works will begin at the school. The next step in the process involves tender documents being issued.
