A new energy storage project involving Google is set to be built in Offaly.
Lumcloon Energy will set up two domes on the site of the former peat fired power station in Rhode, with an agreement reached to use technology from Italian company Energy Dome.
The project will hold a combined capacity for 23 megawatts of storage, equivalent to 200 megawatt hours during period of low demand and release it back to the grid when needed.
Google is signing on with Energy Dome as the offtake partner for the project.
Full consent has been given to the project, with construction set to start later this year.
