Offaly TD Challenges Taoiseach On Peat Criminalisation

Independent TD Carol Nolan feels the current regulations banning commercial sale of peat don't make sense.

An Offaly TD is challenging the Taoiseach over the shipment of peat into Ireland. 

In 2022, Ireland imported over 32,000 tonnes of peat, with 30,000 of that sourced from Northern Ireland.

Regulations prohibit the commercial sale, online advertising, and retail of turf to improve air quality, while households with traditional turbary rights may still cut, use, and share or sell turf locally.
