Two midlands towns are among the oldest populations in Irish towns.
Young people emigrating and an expensive property market could be to blame for an older population in some midlands towns.
That's according to Irish Rural Link, as analysis of the 2022 Census has found an average age of 42 puts Ferbane and Stradbally among the oldest populations in Irish towns.
Ballylinan and Kinnegad are home to the youngest people in the midlands, with an average age of 34.
But, CEO of Irish Rural Link, Ballycumber's Seamus Boland, says the region is doing reasonably well in terms of age:
