Research from myhome.ie has found the average cost of a house in the midlands is €200,000.
One in five home buyers with mortgage approval are failing to secure a property due to excess demand.
New data from myhome.ie also shows increases in the cost of homes around the midlands.
Offaly has seen the largest increase in the price of a home in the region, up €18,000 from this time last year to €210,000. There's also been a decrease of housing availability, down 13%.
The average cost of a house in Westmeath is €200,000, up €15,000. There are 7% more homes available in the county than this time last year.
A Laois dwelling is the cheapest in the region at €190,000. This is an increase of €5,000. There are 46% more homes available in the county than the same period in 2021.
