Creggan Court hotel in Athlone has hosted Ukrainians since the outbreak of war in 2022.
Just over 100 residents are set to be moved from state-supported Ukraine accommodation in Westmeath next month.
Management at the Creggan Court hotel in Athlone is choosing not to renew its contract.
The Department of Justice have stated in a letter to residents they will be moved out of the premises no later than Sunday, May 31st.
The department says its part of its ongoing changes to accommodation for those getting the Beneficary of Temporary Protection weekly payment from before March 2024.
In a statement to Midlands 103, a Department spokesperson said the following:
"The accommodation provided at Creggan Court Hotel has been contracted as State-supported Ukraine accommodation since the outbreak of war in 2022.
As the demand for State-supported Ukraine accommodation has reduced since 2024, the number of accommodation contracts has reduced each year.
Where a contract is ended by the Department or the provider, any residents who wish to continue to avail of State-supported accommodation may be relocated to alternative Ukraine accommodation.
The Department provides information on this process and details of contracts that are ending on gov.ie here.
The provider referenced in your correspondence chose to terminate their contract with the Department and residents are due to be relocated from the property by 31st of May 2026.
The Department provided information through the accommodation provider to the residents, to let them know that the contract is ending with that provider.
Residents who wish to continue to receive state-funded accommodation will be provided with a placement at another location.
To preserve people’s privacy, the Department does not provide information about where people are being placed.
Every effort will be made to keep residents as local as possible, and HSE assessed medical needs can be taken into account in relocations, but local alternatives are not always possible due to availability of suitable accommodation options in the area".
