The recruitment campaign was launched in Laois today.
The Irish Prison Service intends to hire up to 344 prison officers by the end of next year.
Applications are now being accepted, with Minister for Justice Helen McEntee urging the public to consider the role.
The Prison Service intends to hire 144 recruits this year, and a further 200 next year.
The role has a starting salary of over €31,000.
The Prison Officers' Association is welcoming the news.
