Almost €19,000 has been raised in less than 24 hours to help with medical costs.

The partner of a firefighter seriously injured in Westmeath last week is thanking the public for the outpouring of support.

39 year old Patrick Berry is receiving treatment in hospital after sustaining 11 fractured vertebrae, swelling on the brain and a number of broken bones during a house fire in Mount Temple last Thursday.

Almost €19,000 has already been donated to a GoFundMe page, set up to help the family with medical costs.
