Facilities at the midlands station are set for an upgrade.
Planning permission has been granted to upgrade Portlaoise Train Station.
It will include the construction of a pedestrian area at the entrance, a new bicycle shelter and changes to the car park.
New EV charging points and more public lighting are also included in the plans.
Laois Offaly TD and Minister of State in the Department of Finance Sean Fleming is welcoming the permission and says it is great news to commuters, visitors to Laois and all who access this Station and train service.
The upgrade to facilities at Portlaoise Train Station will encourage more people to use Irish public transport.
He is asking Iarnród Eireann to put these works out to tender as early as possible to enable construction works commence so all who access Portlaoise Train Station can benefit from the improvements.
