A vacant former fire station next to Moate Library on Main Street will be refurbished.
Planning permission is being granted to transform a long-vacant former fire station into a community office in Westmeath.
The proposal concerns the refurbishment of the building next to Moate Library on Main Street, a protected structure that formerly served as a courthouse.
Measures include the handling of historic features, the use of traditional materials such as sash windows, detailing at the junctions between new and existing elements, and consultation with conservation experts when original features are revealed.
Strong support for the development of the station was strongly backed by the Moate Town Team.
The proposal was approved, with no objections raised.
