The project received funding last year.
The State has granted approval for plans for a new Offaly fire station to progress.
Clara Fire Station has officially moved to the tender stage for provision of design services, after the local authority submitted a design brief and invitation to tender documents.
The project received funding last year, with the existing station located on a confined site, without the footprint needed for expansion works to be carried out.
Housing Minister Darragh O' Brien has given an assurance the project will continue to be supported by his Department.
A new fire station in Clara was first included in the Fire Services Capital Programme 2021 to 2025 in November of last year.
Laois Offaly Independent TD Carol Nolan says there's still no definite timeline for the project:
"We need more than vague assurances around ‘short timeframes.’ We need delivery and a new working fire station.
I will continue to engage on this issue with the minister and indeed with Offaly County Council."
