It will also involve the demolition of an old shopping centre.
The plans to demolish of an old shopping centre in Westmeath and build retail units and apartments in its place have been given the green light.
The project in Clonmore in Mullingar involves the construction of four retail units with six apartments on the first floor and a new two- and three-storey apartment building consisting of 17 two-bed units.
Westmeath County Council has granted permission - however that comes with 15 conditions, including that developer Peadar Conlon invests over 32,000 euro towards public infrastructure and facilties in the area.
There's been strong local opposition to the project, with 23 objections made to the council, many of which claim the development is too dense and high for the area.
