Questions Raised After Developer Pulls Out Of Laois Council Housing Project

The rising cost of materials is being blamed - but one councillor thinks it's the council's fault.

Questions are being raised in Laois after a developer pulled out of a council housing project due to the rising cost of materials.

Plans for 31 new local authority houses in Stradbally have fallen through, prompting the builder to keep the units and sell them on the private market instead. 

Local Fine Gael rep Aisling Moran claims that Laois County Council failed to follow up on the agreement, allowing the developer to pull out.

However, Fianna Fáil's Paschal McEvoy says the agreement is being re-negotiated and there are hopes a new price can be settled:
