Refurbishment Grant Up-Take Picks Up After Slow Start

The scheme had only received 17 applications between November and March.

The up-take for a scheme allocating up to €50,000 to refurbish a vacant property in Offaly is being described as 'exceptionally good,' after a slow start.

The Croí Cónaithe scheme was extended to rural areas in November, and had only received 17 applications in the county between then and the end of March, according to the Housing Department.

But Director of Services for Planning at Offaly County Council, Ann Dillon, confirmed there are now 100 applicants seeking the grant.

Last month, the scheme was extended to include homeowners who wish to rent out the property - previously, it had only been in place for those planning to live in the building.
