A number of routes in the region have been included in the All-Island Strategic Rail Review.
The cost of reinstating a long-campaigned for midlands rail route may look big in figures, but it will be well worth it.
They're the words of an Environmental and Planning Consultant in Westmeath, Jack O'Sullivan, who is delighted to see the recommendation to reinstate the Athlone to Mullingar route.
It's expected the move will cost between €300 and €400 million.
The recommendation is one of many made in the All-Island Strategic Rail Review, which also includes the electrification of the Portarlington - Galway, and Portarlington to Limerick Junction Route.
