Plans In Place To Prevent Shannon Flooding - Minister

Recent heavy rainfall has sparked calls for relief works to be carried out around Westmeath.

Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Patrick O' Donovan has given assurances plans are in place to prevent flooding along the River Shannon.

Residents along the river in Athlone have raised concerns of high water levels due to heavy rainfall in the past month.

With more rain forecast for next week, calls have been made to carry out flood relief works along the banks of the Shannon.

But, Minister O'Donovan says there are outstanding issues that must be solved before work can re-commence:
