Retained Firefighter Strike Action Could Resume Next Week

SIPTU is expected to reject the 10 recommendations made by the Labour Court.

Retained firefighters could return to strike action as early as next Wednesday.

The Labour Court made 10 recommendations for improving working conditions, which SIPTU members within the retained fire services have labelled a "major disappointment."

It's expected the recommendations will be rejected, with crews due to be balloted later this week.

SIPTU firefighters say their concerns are not being met in relation to pay and training.

The proposals include increasing the retainer paid to crews by up to a third, and staff within stations be expanded from 6 to 12.

But Mullingar Retained Fire Fighter, Tony Sheeran, says that's not realistic:
