Senator David Norris ran for Presidential Election in 2011, and said while enjoyed many aspects of the campaign - media involvement on his part was largely negative.
However, the Independent rep says that social media comments and 'keyboard warriors' do not affect him.
Senator Norris, who has family roots in county Laois, says, while he would always have entered politics, he understands why young people today are put off:
