Review Finds CAMHS Severely Understaffed

It's also believed the digital system within the service is the worst in the world.

The Inspector of Mental Health Services in Ireland says she cannot assure all parents that their children have access to a safe, effective and evidence-based mental health service. 

An independent review of Ireland's Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services has found that it is severely understaffed.

On the day of inspection, CHO8, which includes Laois, Offaly and Westmeath, had a clinical staffing level of 80.8 - the recommended figure is 135.6.

The review also found an IT system to monitor patient records is non-existent.

The report found most services across the country had no IT system that manages appointments or maintains clinical files.

Young people are waiting as long as nine months for an ADHD assessment, according to the review.

There's also a four month wait on average for anxiety queries, and two months for depression.
