The challenge ultimately became a two year adventure for Fergal.
Roscommon nurse Fergal Guihen has arrived in Sydney after completing a two year solo cycle across three continents and 28 countries.
Departing his home in Ireland in March 2024, the 27-year-old from Arigna endured extreme terrain and conditions to raise funds for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and NorthWest STOP suicide prevention services.
The journey, which he named Rossie to Aussie, ended at the Sydney Opera House and raised over €125,000 for the two charities which are very close to his heart.
Fergal endured minus 20 degrees on the Tibetan Plateau, was followed by undercover police, was drugged and attacked in Iran and navigated the valleys of Afghanistan.
CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, Martina Jennings, said: "What Fergal has done is just incredible. His resilience and determination is so inspiring and we are so proud of him and delighted that he reached Sydney safely".
